Harry at this point knows Voldemort may be gone for the moment but is very sure that he will make an attempt to return in the future. This kid an his discernment makes me love him. This kid who was RAISED. IN. A. CUPBOARD. is able to decipher the gravity of his situation. AWARENESS. I love that in a hero. It helps to throw his flaws into sharp relief and helps to paint a fuller character. LOVE. THIS. SO. MUCH.
Dumbledore's relationship with Harry is further deepened and defined here for me especially knowing where the series goes from here. It seems to me that the elder wizard is grooming him from the get go to be a weapon in his war. This makes me sad but also very flaily because there is nothing like an Arthur story wherein Arthur. IS. EXCALIBUR. OH. MY. MERLIN.
I don't know if this means that Dumbledore is an awesome person or if Dumbledore is a bastard. On one hand I love him for being his BAMFY self. He tries to become, as much as he can, a parent to Harry. He tries to instill respect in the boy by emphasizing the Professor in 'Professor' Snape. There's an attempt on Dumbledore's part to draw Harry closer to his dead father in drawing a parallel of James:Severus = Harry:Draco. 'I do believe he worked so hard to protect you this year because he felt that would make him and your father equal.' You have to give Harry, for all his underdeveloped EQ, some credit for trying to understand this but of course, that hurts his head so he stops. On the other hand, you kind of have to hate that Dumbledore does make Harry a weapon. Almost as if there is no other choice when the story reaches that crescendo. There's more to this point. HIT ME WITH THEM because I can't brain this point right now. I have Oscar residual sluicing off me.
You know what else I love about Dumbledore? Dumbledore is Ron's hero! 'Always thought he was off his rocker.' Ron's looking quite impressed at how crazy his hero was. This speaks to Ron's character. This boy is looking for adventure. Looking for that something to make him great. THIS (along with their super awesome fierce bromance) contributes to his decision to join Harry through thick and thin. Their bromance. IT IS EPIC.
Ron says you can't have everything in life... that probably has something to do with... Oh, I know! I was gonna use that as my THIS IS WHY I CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS point...
Okay that part where Hagrid gives Harry the photo album full of collected pictures from friends of James & Lily?
Lastly, I leave you with this: Ginny is a shining example of being cooler than she was written.
