Day 16 - What is the absolute worst pairing?
Sara Sidle/Gil Grissom - CSI
I can't even bring myself to look up a picture of them to post. Just... okay, I feel I have to explain this because so many were happy with how this ended and for me it was the final nail in the CSI coffin. Firstly, they're both emotionally retarded and socially dumb. That does not make for balance. IMO, balance is essential and key to being a successful person and if you do not possess or at least try to possess those qualities, then you have no business attempting a relationship with someone, especially when all that lack can lead to destroying someone else. That? Is not love. That is straight up selfishness. The world could use a whole lot less of that. Secondly, the type of parasitic attachment Sara makes to Gil is a big turn off. Professor/hero worship is a complete de-rection for me. If you have to contort and shove yourself into a mold for someone else to notice you and it stems from a lack of esteem or worth then clearly, you need help. If someone takes advantage of that, then they are not the person you need to be with. I also feel there is a need to bring yourself to that place of peace and wholeness before you can share yourself with someone else. Relying on them to get you there and seeking validation from an other before thine self will only lead to a constant cycle of self-loathing and habitual loss of agency. Clearly they are on unequal ground here and as we've established, I ♥ partner!love because it sets you on an even keel which can lead to individual greatness whilst bonded to something larger than a unit of one. Because while maintaining a relationship will include all kinds of compromise and negotiation it should never be to the degree of losing self-worth. If they had given Sara the opportunity to find those things and given us the opportunity to witness her growth and discovery of strength then this wouldn't be, IMO, the most absolute worst pairing ever for me. Thirdly, any kind of involvement with a supervisor/employee premise gives me the creeps. IE: Dani Reese/Kevin Tidwell. *shudder*

Lol, I totally go for those kinds of ships! IDK why, I love power imbalance and inappropriate age differences and all the rest of it, god, I am so immoral, lmao.

But even though a ship like Sara/Grissom is DIRECTED FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME, I still didn't buy it! I mean, this is kind of my fave dynamic and I still thought it sucked! So there you go! Even someone predisposed to liking that type of relationship was still put off!

All those years of shipping Catherine/Grisson... *wibbles*

LOL! If the circumstance is right I could be persuaded to see it from the other side but they way this was handled just... no. In fandom there was so much wank and hate and ship wars over Sara or Cath, omg. I was Team Cath but never got into the actual battles cos I knew it wasn't going to go the way I wanted it to because it never does. And it really says something when GSR doesn't appeal to people who do ship them. How can the PTBs be so FREAKING BLIND?! I just... IDEK. WHY ARE THEY IN CHARGE!!!

Also, I was watching the newest ep last night and SARA IS BACK?! WHUT?! I thought she left for Borneo to study squid fish or something... I was confused cos I haven't watched in years but there was Snickers tension and cuteness so YAY! I love Sara/Nicky. Mmm, tasty angst and healing.

Haha, I read GSR as 'gunshot residue'. :P

IDK what TPTB were thinking. I thought CSI was about cases more than characterization (which is why I got bored, I got tired of shows like CSI and Cold Case, etc. I wanted shows more about the characters- like Mentalist and Castle!), and then they forge on full steam ahead into the most ill-judged and unconvincing ship ever? It didn't come off as romantic, as far as I recall, it was just like one mistake after another as far as the writing treated it.

Sara's back? And this is the Morpheus Langston era? Wow. So what happened with her and Grissom then, I'm confused!

*snicker* That's what we dubbed it over on the CSI boards AGES ago... gods I feel old.

It seems like types of shows come in waves. First there was all 1/2 hour sitcommy stuff then it moved to SERIOUS HOUR LONG DRAHMAH! then there was Procedural Procedures and now it's back to 1/2 hour sitcommy stuff. *shrug* I think all PTBs eventually end up becoming crack heads with their writing and producing. THERE IS NO OTHER LOGICAL EXPLANATION.

Yes, this is the new Morpheus era... I'm still confused but I could give a rat's about what the hell is or isn't going on in CSI. *sigh* To think I was so very hard core for this show once upon a once.
