A natural wormhole (then gated and called EVE) gave humans the ability to travel to another star cluster (New Eden) and as humans do, colonisation and exploration were at the top of the list. Then the EVE gate collapsed in a catastrophic event that ruined and screwed up New Eden in the process. As a result small isolated colonies were all that survived and through the millennia five major powers rose from the rubble.
For a hundred years or so there was relative peace and balance held by the respective empires and their powers. However, due to technological advancement like FTL drives and population growth that peace, may now be threatened. Lots of enterprising business men and women are part of that threat.
As a player in this game you can work for an organisation, team up with friends to create an alliance or run solo missions. Whether it's running from the various Empires or betrayal within your own alliance you will always be in danger. It's very much like Firefly in the sense that you're on the raggedy edge of space working to get that fierce need to eat outta your stomach.
And did I mention beautiful graphics to rival any Battlestar Galactica space fight?
