Day 21 - A pairing you like and no one else understands why?

Donnatella Moss/Samuel Norman Seaborn - The West Wing
Everybody was on board the Donna/Josh cruise ship or the Ainsley/Sam barge and I was on the little life raft of Donna/Sam. I never ship the way TPTBs suppose of me. Maybe I like being different. Or maybe I like to get my heart broken. Whatever. It's probably both. I think just in the nature of Sam, he can't treat people like they don't matter if they're not on his agenda. Something about the way Sam talks to Donna makes me love them. He doesn't condescend or talk down to her cos she's not an ivy league grad. He doesn't use her, ignore her, run roughshod all over her or make her do his dirty work. He's not oblivious to other people's needs or wants. He's constantly aware of others. Donna is similar to Sam wherein she has that optimism but it's partnered with practicality instead of idealism. She's grounded where he is imaginative. Like Sam, she constantly notices other people's needs and does everything feasibly within her power to accommodate them because that's how she finds a measure of fulfillment. She's willing to do that for people. She is a force to be regarded and that needed to be validated and Sam acknowledged that far more quickly and frequently than Josh ever did. He knew she had something more than glory driving her to do her job. Sam's contagious idealism can make anybody believe in anything and when that part of him is shattered in SGTE, SGTJ and Donna is there to witness him fall apart? And then Donna does the only thing anyone could possibly do at that moment? IT WAS BEAUTEOUS. Also, The Dragon's Rubies by Elliot Silver is a FREAKING FANTASTIC look at how Donna/Sam could be wonderfully wondrous and warm. It also deftly deals with the Josh issue without demonising any one of the three. I hate when fic does that and this fic does not in any way have that. It's an honest evaluation of the how and why these things happen. It even made me appreciate the entire Lancelot/Guinevere/Arthur dynamics from the Lancelot side of things. WHUT?
