Clear Skies
Some background. EVE Online is a massive multi-player online game much like WoW. It's a whole 'verse in and of itself with history. HISTORY.

A natural wormhole (then gated and called EVE) gave humans the ability to travel to another star cluster (New Eden) and as humans do, colonisation and exploration were at the top of the list. Then the EVE gate collapsed in a catastrophic event that ruined and screwed up New Eden in the process. As a result small isolated colonies were all that survived and through the millennia five major powers rose from the rubble.

For a hundred years or so there was relative peace and balance held by the respective empires and their powers. However, due to technological advancement like FTL drives and population growth that peace, may now be threatened. Lots of enterprising business men and women are part of that threat.

As a player in this game you can work for an organisation, team up with friends to create an alliance or run solo missions. Whether it's running from the various Empires or betrayal within your own alliance you will always be in danger. It's very much like Firefly in the sense that you're on the raggedy edge of space working to get that fierce need to eat outta your stomach.

And did I mention beautiful graphics to rival any Battlestar Galactica space fight?

Here's two short films made by EVE fans Jan Chisholm and Richie Powles. It's a bit of genius if you ask me and well worth checking out. With a irreverent gunnery sergeant, a cantankerous engineer and a ship that keeps on ticking after a licking, Captain John Rourke does his best to maintain his standard of living. Mind you, that standard is not that high. Also, who wouldn't want The Edge as your gunny? Ladies and gents, fanboys and girls take a look at...

Well, clearly I'm more famous than you mate, cos I don't know your name. - Captain John Rourke

As a pretty passionate gamer, Eve always excites me. There's no other game out there that gives so much power to the players, that generates stories as impressive. This is a great article about the largest MMO war ever: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/09/09/the-great-war/#more-2593

I never, ever get tired of reading about it, but I'll never play it again. I lasted about an hour, confused in a ship with no real defences, then accidentally attacked a police ship and got blown to kingdom come.

Anyway, that was a very long-winded way of saying I look forward to watching this.

'Tis quite a great thing. Thanks for the link!

LOL! Yeah, it's a game that I'd only do with friends. It helps if you've got someone watching your back. ^__^
